Need to move Outlook from Desktop to C:\Programs. How?

Outlook is on the Desktop of my laptop. Now I need to speed up my computer
and want to move Outlook to C:\Programs. Drag & Drop doesn't work. Nothing
in Properties helps. How can I get Outlook off my Desktop short of deleting
it? I have three months' of email and my contact list in it.
 
Outlook does not normally install on the Desktop. Are you sure it's the
executable 'Outlook.exe' and not just a shortcut? Right click on the icon on
the Desktop, select Properties, find Target. Or search for Outlook.exe. It's
usually installed in C:\program files\Microsoft Office\Office11. If you have
to reinstall it, you will not lose your mail and contacts. Use File, Open OL
Data file to open your pst file. Also make sure you are not referring to
Windows' Outlook Express, which is not part of Office and whose executable is
MSIMN.EXE
 
I truly do mean Outlook and not Outlook Express. I have two files that
respond to the search for "outlook.exe".
1. outlook.exe27D5965C.pf is in C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
2. has the Outlook icon and simply says "Outlook" and is located in
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10.

I also have Outlook Express in my Programs Folder on the C:\ drive.
 
What do you get if you right click the Outlook desk top icon and select
properties?
Likely the applet will open that allows you to modify OL setup
The icon is a shortcut, not the OL application.
There is a method of removing it from the desktop, delete wont work, but
offhand I cannot remember the procedure.
 
What do I get when I right-click the Outlook icon on my Desktop (which is a
true icon and not a shortcut, btw... there is no small arrow in the lower
left corner) and select properties?
I get a very unusual properties box with three areas to select to change the
mail setup in Outlook...Email Accounts, Data Files and Profiles.
It is NOT a typical properties menu to see the file location, etc. of a
shortcut.
The reason I want to move Outlook off my Desktop is because it takes so much
memory that startup takes almost 5 minutes... and I have over 2 gig of memory
in my laptop!

That Desktop Icon you have is NOT the OL application, it merely opens the
Mail Applet, which you can also open via Control Panel.
The use of the Mail Applet should be self explanitary

Unless you placed a shortcut to OL in your startup folder OL will not load
on startup.
When you start your Laptop does the OL app actually open?

What Icons / Apps are shown in your Taskbar (Lower right hand corner,
usually)?

Then the item on your desktop is NOT Outlook, but just a shortcut to the
image that's ALREADY in Program Files. You don't need to do anything.

Rather, it's a kind of shortcut to the Mail applet in Control Panel.
