I am looking for a way to map the F1 key to run a batch
file or command, instead of the standard Microsoft Help
stuff. I know how to swap mappings from one key to
another, i.e., when you hit the backspace key, the letter
F is typed, etc., but I want to actually map a command to
one of the function keys.
I don't want to use any outside software. Is there a way
to do this? I have been looking at things like doskey,
ansi.sys escape sequences, etc., but I can't seem to find
a way that will work in Windows and not just in a command
console.
And the hotkeys thing doesn't seem to work for me. I
don't want to have to create a shortcut to a program or
batch file on my desktop, then edit the properties to add
the Shortcut key. For one thing, it messes up the
desktop, and another thing is that it only seems to work
half the time. Windows only responds to the shortcut key
combination when it wants to.
Anyone know of any registry tweaks or other system setting
to map a command to a key like F1?
Thanks!
