Need to limit max volume for a school computer lab (25 PCs)

Hi,

I need the ability to set the maximum volume that a PC can be set too. The
kids just can't voluntarily keep the volumes reasonable.

The only solutions I have found are a $15 program called NoiseNak, and
Volume.exe, sample code at the microsoft site that I imagine I can tweak and
put it in a loop to force the volume back to some predefined value once per
second.

My minimum requirement is that the volume be set to a predetermined level
and that the setting not be easily changed by a user. The PCs have a volume
control on the speakers and the users can use that if they want a lower
volume.

Thanks

I'd create an account with no access to Control Panel or other settings -
don't know how it would work in XPHome.

Michael,

I do have XP Pro. I looked through the Group Policy Editor and could not
find anything specific to the audio volume. Are you suggesting removing the
volume control icon from the taskbar and then not allowing access to the
control panel? But won't they still be able to change the volume in
individual applications such as Media Player?

Even if they change the volume in individual apps., it will not go higher
than the master volume control setting... at least that's how it works on my
PC. Guess they use same trick in stores with PC's on display - maybe ask
those guys, too.

Michael,

It works like that on my PC also, at least with Windows Media Player. It
sounds like it is worth trying, but I won't be sure until I try a few other
programs.

Thanks
