I recently had a tech reformat / reinstall a legitimate copy of XP Pro on my
machine. It is now loaded with Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 (Service
Pack 2) / IE6.02900.2180 / PC-cyllin 2005. All patches have been applied.
Since rebuilding I need to hold down the ctrl button on the keyboard whilst
clicking on the left mouse button to open some links. If I do not, I get the
Windows default tone and zip happens. Can someone please tell me where to
make the appropriate change so the pages open using the mouse only - just
like it used to!

Hi,
Turn off or reconfigure the IE6 pop-up blocker via IE> Tools> Pop-up
blocker. From pop-up blocker> settings, you might want to check "Show the
information bar." That will make it more obvious that the pop-up blocker is
enabled and working.

Hope this helps,

Thank you Don. It was not IE6 pop-up blocker. I made the suggested changes,
alas to no avail.

You did however point me in the right direction. I noted whilst trolling
through your informative site that Google add-ons occasionally gives grief. I
removed this and still had the problem.

I noted then through Tools>Manage Add-ons that a program called 12 Ghosts
had been installed and an instance of pop-up blocker was running here too! I
turned this off, reconfigured IE6 pop-up blocker and all is fine.

I learnt tonight than "an old dog" can be taught new tricks. I can not thank
you enough.

Hi,
Glad you got it resolved. I should have mentioned that *another* pop-up
blocker might be the culprit. :-o
