Hi,

I need to free up some disc space on my C drive, it is not very big at 9GB
but I want to keep it as tis SCSI 1500rpm and performs very well. I have
kept all installs to a minimum but it is still getting tight. I notice that
my
windows directory is over 2GB, dones anyone know of any substantial sized
files I can get rid of without causing any problems? Is there for instance
any uninstall files from SP2 or anything like that? Any help greatly
appreciate.

Thanks lotsly

"...I want to keep it as tis SCSI 1500rpm..."

Any drive you can buy today is much faster.

To free up space on your hard disk
1. empty the recycle bin
2. run the disk cleanup wizard
3. reduce the amount of space allocated to the recycle bin
4. reduce the amount of space allocated to Temporaray Internet Files
5. reduce the amunt of space allocated to restore points (if you are confident in your ability to backup your system partition often)

Hi Aplhacenturi,

i would add, that yif there stuff u cud burn onto CDs, you cud do s
and delete it from the HD and after that defragment.

I have a similar situation, only 8 GB on my system. Hard to believe xp home
runs so well, only 224 mb memory installed. Anyway, I chose the option to
compress all files not too long ago when I'd reached what I considered
dangerously low levels of hard drive space remaining. This restored almost 2
GB of hard drive space! Naturally, before doing so I had removed unnecessary
junk as well. Please get some more advice though, from the real experts on
this group before doing so. It could very well be they assumed you had
already compressed. Its something I would like to learn more about as well.
Incidentally, my file system is NTFS.

I am unable to remove temporary files and web client files. Nothing happens
when I try to remove programs as well. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks,

What happens when you run Disk CleanUp?

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp to
Empty your Recycle Bin and Remove Temporary Internet Files.

An alternative to Disk CleanUp is cCleaner (freeware) which does a more
thorough job than Disk CleanUp. Disk CleanUp has to be run for each user
profile, whereas cCleaner only needs to be run once.

With any cleaner you need to proceed with caution. To be safe you
should create a restore point before using cCleaner. cCleaner also
offers backup before removal.

When using cCleaner think twice before checking Autocomplete Form
History under Internet Explorer. You do get a warning but this one has
irritating consequences. You may need to restore your system's
recollection of passwords after use so keep a record off computer so
that they can easily be re-entered.

Leave the Scan for Issues option alone.

cCleaner does not remove restore points. You need to use Disk CleanUp
for this. Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk
CleanUp, More Options, System Restore and remove all but the latest
System Restore point.

Hope this helps.

CCleaner good program but....

Does it clean all the user accounts on the computer?
At the moment CCleaner supports cleaning the current user's account only.
This may change in a future release.
