I would like to get a phone call whenever any of our servers go down. How
can I do that?

You could use some networked PC to ping the servers
constantly. When a ping fails, get that PC to invoke an
auto-dialler. Make sure that the PC is on a highly secure
power supply!

Thanks for the response.
-Would an autodialer be a 3rd party software?
-Can you point me to any detailed instructions, or do I simply need to
refresh my knowledge re setting up alerts?

I think a better solution would be to have the computer page you vs. making a
phone call. Most pagers can be reached via e-mail, so you simply need to use
SMTP to generate the alert.

Greetings,

An alternative option is CyberGuage. At 395 for 5 devices it may also be
affordable. Works well and generates some helpful reports. Has notification
options too: http://www.neon.com/CGwin.shtml

Hope this helps,

GFI's Network Server Monitor is a wonderful tool as well. It can check
services, disk space, and a host of other things as well.
