Hi everyone not going to write a book, just nice and simple.:)

Have a 80gb maxtor (sata)

Bought a new WD Caviar SE 160gb to replace my 80gb.

Thought it would be a case of opening tower, removing old 80gb and pluging in new 160gb, turning on computer and reinstaling windows.

I get the following message when booting up

HardWare Initiate failed, Please Check Device!!! The Bios does not be installed. Press <g> to continue!

I can't access the setup or bios and i'm out of ideas?:(

Just to let you know i have the following system

Asus A8V Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 processor 3000+
1.25 GB RAM

Any help will be most welcome!

There are many reports of problems with SATAII drives with your A8V motherboard - one solution listed for Western Digital hard drives is to put the jumper on pins 5/6 on the drive.

Hi Adywebb Thanks for posing a reply.

I will try jumpering pins 5&6

Keep the sugestions coming in. most apprechiated!

Also on that board once you manage to get the thing to boot to your CD you have to have your SATA drivers on hand on a Floppy or you won't get any further.

You might also try to clear the CMOS since you've changed Hard Drive makes.

It is a finicky board but quite reliable once set up successfully.

I know a couple of times I had to actually unplug the power cord from the back of the case for a few seconds as well as clear the CMOS when I made some changes and it got mad at me.

Thanks to Adywebb my issue is now sorted.

The New SATA HDD i bought must of been a SATAII and needed jumpering from a 300 to a 150.

Once again thanks for the help guys.

Glad its sorted macer - and thanks for returning to post the update :)
