need some help/advice

ok i'm a {mucks edit:} new person when it comes to computers. so i am wondering a couple things.

1. whats the diff between the gfx card types. and how could i tell what mine takes. i think what i'm asking is something to do with psi and psu or something i'm not sure.

2. i've been thinking of saving up for a new gfx's card to replace my radeon 9550. i'm not uncle money bags and wondering what would be my best bet on a new one. i play fps' many bf2 right now and thinking about getting 2142. plus i play other games that do not need as much power. any idea's.

3. my rig is

Manufacturer:Alienware
Processor:AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.0GHz
Memory:1024MB RAM
Hard Drive:82 GB
Video Card:RADEON 9550

if more info is needed just let me know what. and thank you in advance for any help.
 
That's AGP right? If so then you obviously need and AGP card to replace it. Out of interest can you tell me the motherboard make and model? If you dont know then you can download Everst home frome here. In the 'System info' section.

Whats your budget?

according to my paper work i got with my computer its a abit av8 1.5 socket 939 k8 mb motherboard. is that what you needed.

and like i said i don't have a lot of money comeing in and i am goign to have to save up for it.

Yep that sounds about right. This one.

So yes you would need an AGP graphics card, not PCI-E. :)

You have two manufacturers to chose from Nvidia or ATI.

Nvidia AGP card here

ATI AGP cards here

You like your FPS's (As do i) so you could do with a decent one. To be fair anything is a step up from what you have at the moment. but it does depend on what you would be willing to spend.

Have a look to see what the range consists of. One thing i would say is that AGP is one the way out in favour of PCI-Express so AGP card are starting to become rare on the ground.

thanks guys. the card i have now plays everything i want it to pretty smoothly so i'm lucky there. but i am wishing i had better. like on bf2 my view isn't as far as i wish it was better. and compared to the three other computers (2 pc's 1 notebook) my computer is great. i've even thought about saving up again for another completely new computer and have two. when my gameing squad that could come in handy when it deals with being an admin on our server.
