Hi guys,

We just purchased a reconditioned "Dell", and the hard
drive is totally erased. No Windows or anything! We were
aware of this fact, however we didn't ever stop and think
that we needed to go purchase our Software before the
machine arrived.

At any rate, I'm a College student in Ohio, and went to the
book store and got XP Professional on "floppy", dirt cheap.
Now, do any of you guys know what I have to do now, to
install this program, since this system is totally
"stripped", and has no Windows programs at all? If it were
a CD Rom, I would think it would self- launch, but it's a
floppy disc. Do we need some other Software too? I really
need to get this machine running today!

Please reply ASAP, and I thank you all for your anticipated
support.

The Windows XP operating system is only available on a CD.
Since it is over 500MBs in size, it will not fit on a "floppy disk".
You'll need to purchase Windows XP on a CD if you wish to
install it. Also, you'll need to purchase the "full version" and
not the "upgrade version" unless you own a Microsoft Windows
98/ME/2000 CD that is not installed on another computer.

No - but it will fit on 400,000 of 'em! ;o) I believe 3.1 was the last
version of Windows to be available on floppy - unless 95 had a floppy option
I'm not aware of.

95 was available on floppy IIRC, a bloody lot of them too!! :) And you
thought it took a long time to install from CD! :)
