need some advice on temperature sensors

got a new case yesterday and am pretty happy with it.

It came with an lcd display panel which is connected to three cables on
the inside of the case with temperature sensors at the endof each one.
One for sys (system), one for hdd (hard drive) and one for the cpu.

at the end of each cable the sensors them selves are shielded in a
plastic tube with the end open. (should I take the plastic tubes off ?)

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to use these, the case
did come with an instruction manual but it didn't really mention how or
where exactly to mount the sensors. I guess its probably not such a
good idea to shove the cpu sensor into the middle of the heatsink right ?.

Any help appreciated.

my case had the same so i put the cpu one right int the heatsink at the top
its the only way to get a
good reading.

use thermal tape to tape the sensore to your processor, alternatively tap to
the side of the heatsink, although this wont give you a good indication as
to the CPU temperature as for hard discs, thermal tape it to the surface,
the system cable i have taped to the heatsink on my old gfx card

there are no strict rules on where these cables should be placed

just a guide where to place or what to use them to detect, you could use
them all in one place, one under on bottom of heatsink (remembering to use
thermal tape) one on the processor and one on the side of the heatsink, as
long as you remember which one is going where

Only if you are very careful not to damage the leads on
them. For measuring ambient air temp the plastic can stay
on but for measuring CPU or HDD, taking plastic off would
result in more accurate readings.

You could shove it into the middle of the heatsink if you
wanted, but be sure it's securely fastened, if it stopped
the fan, unnoticed, that might be a pretty bad thing. You
could instead drill a hole into the side of the heatsink,
fill hole with thermal epoxy first and before expoxy sets,
insert probe. That makes it harder to dismount heatsink or
reuse probe though, ideally the probe would have a connector
added inline so it can be unplugged (if case unit doesn't
already have this).

CPU already has a temp sensor though, so if your video card
doesn't you could mount one there, or whereever you want
making sure they're securely mounted.

Thanks for your help, I don't suppose you know where I could get some
thermal tape in the uk ?

erm no i cant, i got thermal tape with my panel however i know there are
websites that sell it outside of the UK

however i cannot remember the website, It was very expensive and i opted not
to bother with buying any more

it came in at around £30 a roll not sure if my conversion from $USD is
correct

Kony has given you some cool advice drill a hole into the side of the hs and
fill it with epoxy, it just then means the detector will be stick on that hs
for good, so make sure you wanna do that
