Dear All,

I'm after some advice, I'm running a common setup, a adsl/router with normal
speed network cards (100mbps) and I've reading about gigabits, and the
possibility of upgrading my adsl/router and network cards and cables?

I've looked around a few online sites that sell hardware, but I don't want
to go and spend money on something that won't benefit me.

Is there a major speed increase on transfers between machines? I've also
heard that HDD's can cause slow downs? etc.

Also, if I'm only a 1MB internet connection, I'm guessing I won't see any
benefit from that as I think (remembing some sites) that 100mbps is 12mb or
something? but I'm thinking of the transfers between machines?

Any help, tips or advice would be appreaciarted...

Thanks
Paul.

If you move large files between computers on your internal network and
have quality GB network cards the computers, then you will see a real
difference in performance. If you only share a printer or a couple
files, you're not really going to notice a difference when you switch to
GB speeds.

As for your internet connection - you won't notice anything, as your
connection is already slower than your current network.

If you have any suspect cables, meaning ones that are not high quality,
you could have issues when you move to GB, as GB should be on CAT5E
cable in most cases (yes, it will work on CAT5).
