Need software for CCTV security cameras.

Up till now we have been using a time-lapse VCR, which gives poor results.
I want to buy a TV hard-disk drive and couple this to the (two) cameras we
have. But I need software to allow time-interval grabs to give extended
recording.

Does Microsoft have something in their range that will allow this?

I am new to this, and the trial software wants to know the "address" of the
video camera.
For the test I have a Sony hand-held analogue camera, but I need to know:
If I have room on my computer for a video card?
What card is required?
And how do I install it?
I have run out of "IRQs" because of scanners & tape back-ups.
