Hi, I am in safe mode attempting to use live safety center, but can't scroll
down as the page is too big. I minimized the taskbar, but can't remember how
to minimize the web pages so i can "continue" at the page bottom. Thanks!

Put the mouse arrow to the top so it turns into a double pointed arrow and
drag down. Now put the arrow in the top title bar, left click and drag the
entire page up revealing the bottom portion of the webpage.

That doesn't work. The only double arrow I get is at the bottom right of the
page where there is some shading. Even then it will not change/move. thanks!

Right click the icon on the taskbar and choose Resize. Now use the keyboard
arrows to resize the window.

I believe you are customizing the start menu properties by selecting the
small icon. Then on the tollbar under view:customize: small icons. This only
minimizes the top, not the page items.

Please go to: http://safety.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm
select full scan to see the pop-up page size. That is what needs to minimize
as the arrows will not work. Thanks again.

Hi - Not quite sure of the circumstances which require Safe mode, but
perhaps you can used a "Clean Boot" instead. From my Blog, Defending Your
Machine, addy below in my signature:

#########IMPORTANT#########

Show hidden files and run all of the following removal tools from Safe mode
or a "Clean Boot" when possible, logged on as an Administrator. BEFORE
running these tools, be sure to clear all Temp files and your Temporary
Internet Files (TIF) (including offline content.) Reboot and test if the
malware is fixed after using each tool.

HOW TO Enable Hidden Files
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2002092715262339

Clean Boot - General Win2k/XP procedure, but see below for links for other
OS's (This for Win2k w/msconfig - you can obtain msconfig for Win2k here:
http://www.3feetunder.com/files/win2K_msconfig_setup.exe ):

1. StartRun enter msconfig.

2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then clear the 'Process
System.ini File', 'Process Win.ini File', and 'Load Startup Items' check
boxes. Leave the 'boot.ini' boxes however they are currently set.

3. In the Services tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" checkbox,
and then click the "Disable All" button. If you use a third party firewall
then re-check (enable) it. For example, if you use Zone Alarm, re-check the
True Vector Internet Monitor service (and you may also want to re-check
(enable) the zlclient on the Startup tab.) Equivalent services exist for
other third party firewalls. An alternative to this for XP users is to
enable at this time the XP native firewall (Internet Connection Firewall -
ICF). Be sure to turn it back off when you re-enable your non-MS services
and Startup tab programs and restore your normal msconfig configuration
after cleaning your machine.

4. Click OK and then reboot.

What on earth are you doing accessing the internet in Safe Mode with
Networking for?

Your firewall and antivirus software probably won't even start.

You are just asking for trouble.

Here is the webpage I get when I start up, and the reason for needing to
"shrink" the info on the MS pop-up page to do full scan, but can't get to
bottom of page to click "ok". Thanks for the assitance,

Virus alert: a virus has been detected on your computer

Thank you for submitting an error report.

Problem description

The error was likely caused by a computer virus that is known by the
following names:

Win32/Apropos.B
WinNT/Zufyx.A
Spyware.Apropos.C
Trojan.Win32.Crypt.t
Solution

A solution is available. However, because you will need to restart your
computer to implement the solution, please read and print these instructions.
They will not be available after you shut down your computer.

Virus removal notes

Because this virus eludes detection in the normal Windows mode, you need to
start your computer in safe mode.
Virus removal instructions

There are two major tasks required to remove this computer virus:

Restart your computer in safe mode with networking
Scan your computer with the scanner available at Windows Live
Both tasks can be accomplished by following these steps:

Restart your computer. As your computer restarts, repeatedly press the F8
key on your keyboard until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If you
work on a network with this computer, make sure you log on to safe mode with
your network credentials.
Use the arrow key to select Safe Mode with Networking, and then press ENTER.
Use an arrow key to select an operating system and press ENTER.
When prompted to run Windows in safe mode, click Yes.
After your computer starts in safe mode, start Internet Explorer and go to
Windows Live Safety Center (http://safety.live.com/).
In Windows Live Safety Center, under Service Centers, click the Protection
icon.
Under How safe is my PC, click the Protection Scan button, read and choose
to accept the Beta agreement, and then install the scanner.

After the scanner installs, click Launch Scanner, and then follow the
directions to remove the virus.
Click Start, click Shut Down, and in the drop-down list, click Shut down.
In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK. This
will restart Windows in normal mode.

That is just plain bad advice.

Don't you have any real antivirus software? Windows Live is still in beta.

Yes I have NSW. Info shows w32/mydoom.a@mm is active but doesn't remove. I
just want to get this fixed and be over it.

Here's a pickle: safety.live.com located the virus W32.Mydoom.A@mm with 3
infected file, however when running the removal tool in Two admins that I
have and safe mode it doesn't locate it. I ran the safety.live twice and it
still shows up. The crash continues....
