:>Jameco sells several small hard drives. Not particularly a bargain

Thanks, I'll look into that. It's for my parents' old Packard Bell computer.
They don't know a thing about computers and it took them quite a while to learn
how to use one. I'd like to be able to fix it up so they don't have to learn
all over again on a new computer. Everything else on it is fine.
Generally speaking a system that can recognize up to 8GB
should have PCI busmastering slot. This means you could
install a PCI IDE controller card and a modern hard drive,
which will not only be expected to last a lot longer than
one already 7 years old, not only have a much greater
storage capacity, but also be about 5X faster.
As to reconfiguring a newer system vs. "learn all over
again", if their box is running win95b or win98/SE, it
should be relatively painless to plug-n-play their existing
OS and application installation to a newer system. They
wouldn't need relearn anything, it'd just be multiple times
faster and more reliable.
