ok i have come across many things in my PC years but this is brand new and i
don’t even know where to start.

since about 2 months i am having problems to install basically anything in
my pc generally when i run a setup exe file or a zip file somewhere in the
way i get the lovely file corrupted message and as u can understand there
isn’t much u can do about it, this happens to me when i download from the net
files to my computer( i have a external and internal hard drive doesn’t work
in both), from CD/DVD (i have two drives and it happens in both) and even
coming from any USB storage devices. The problem is that this files work fine
in other computers and only ''hang'' on mine although most of the files
downloaded from the net using my PC don’t work in other PCs also.

So i got tired and decided to just clean everything and setup xp again
surely it was a software prob. i started installing xp decided to do 3
partitions in my internal drive and left my external USB drive disconnected
right after that it starts formatting partition c: to install xp everything
fine till now. It starts copying the setup files to disk soon after file
corrupted cannot copy I retry … didn’t work I had to cancel the setup o
reboot everything all over again and again started to copy files this time I
got stuck half way done with a different file it seems the file that
previously didn’t work was fine now. So I decide to go to my house mate and
ask his laptop recovery cd guess what got the same problem in another file so
I just quitted.

Yesterday I tried again with my own cd got stuck again so I decided to
call my friend that is a technician while I am in the phone I decided to
press retry once again and it worked!? So the files that was corrupted just
5m ago is fine now?

Finally I was able to install xp and all the drivers needed I was pretty
happy and thought my problems where gone. After I install my anti virus I
downloaded sp2 and … during sp2 setup file corrupted and I had to cancel.

I have downloaded sp2 5 times now none worked my problem isn’t sp2 itself
but all other stuff that might not work in the future right now I cant use
AutoCAD requires sp1 or sp2 so can anybody tell me what is going on if it
isn’t a software problem what is wrong?

My PC

Intel motherboard
P4 2.4 (512 bus)
2*256M ram (ddr333)
Asus V7100PRO (32M) Graphics card
Liteon DVD drive
Lg 52X cd burner
Maxtor 80GB internal hard drive
Western digital 160GB external drive

It is an oldie but it is only for work
sorry folks i know it is a big post but it is an anoying problem.

My gosh, what was your last year of school? Due to your lack of
puncutation, I got about two paragraphs into your post and moved
on. But then I decided to come back and post this.

Try it again, in English this time.

Pop

Unintelligible gibberish.

I got about two lines in, my eyes started to water, and I just gave up.

Spell-check and punctuation would really help.

Aren't you acting a little "holier than thou" assuming the poster's first
language is English?

I read through the post and go the hang of the questions,
not that I know the answers :) (XP newbie, but experienced
in the use of language). I'd hazard a guess that the
poster's original language is text messaging, a compact
but wearing dialect of English that is becoming more
widespread by the day.

One has to decide whether to make the effort to hear
the message despite difficulties with the messenger.
Not always an easy decision.

It's an easy decision for me. If someone wants help, he should write in a
way that will make it as easy as possible for those who might help him to do
so. If he's not willing to make the effort to do that, I'm not willing to
make the effort to work at deciphering his message.

Hugo, I'm not sure that I follow the whole story but the gist of it seems
to be that you are having repeated trouble with file corruption and it's
happening somewhere between reading from a disk or download file and doing
something with that information. Sounds like a hardware problem. Check that
the data cables for the drive are 40 pin/80 wire cables. Check that the
connections are snug on both ends. Probably should run chkdsk (clean up
temp files first). And run a memory test on your RAM. Some references for
memory testers for you:

Thanks Sharon but i was able to fix the problem changed the virtual memory to
my external hard drive, quiet a strange or unsafe thing to do since it is a
removal device but it was enough to check were the problem was. I am now set
to get a new internal disk drive.

I guess my previous post was sloppy but punctuation didn’t solve the
problem, luckily my technical skills are a lot better than my English. :)

Oh and PopS being Portuguese and all i know that puncutation is written like
this: punctuation but i am sure you just mistyped.

Quantas linguas estrangeiras voces falam? Go ahead translate this one :)

You're welcome, hugo! I'm glad to read that you have this figured out now
and are headed in the right direction.
