Tina

I recently just purchased my hp and somehow the Microsoft
windows xp program has already gotten a virus that has
corrupted some of my files. Not to mention that I did not
uninstall some programs correctly. Now after trying to
get assistance from hp, pc doctor my program still is not
responding correctly. It automatically goes to System
Recovery when try to turn my computer off. If someone
could help me step by step correct these errors with
missing files,incorrect uninstallation,and corrupt and
quarentened files. I am simply terrified to try anything
by myself, I've already messed things up enough.

THe problem you have is that HP does not (to my knowledge, based on
http://weblog.infoworld.com/foster/) provide recovery disks. Do they
provide any written instruction you can follow?

You are going to have to do something differnt, once you get back
on-line, avoid this security problem. Review the info on
www.microsoft.com/security about "safe computing".

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I'd suggest you try and start the process over. I'd try to restore to
the earliest version of XP that you have saved IF XP had restore
enable. If this version is earlier than the virus, then you're lucky.
If not and you still have the virus, then after the restore, download
current AV signature files and scan the computer.

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Restore Wizard.

Remember that this Restore Wizard will restore the computer to the
date you select and any changes, additions, updates, etc. you made
AFTER this date will not be included. Let's hope you can select a
date before the virus.

Good luck.
