ive gone thru linksys and they werent any help i was hoping someone can help
me with this issue

Have you tried with other wireless card on that computer. I wouldn't blame
router for a start. I suspect that PC could be the problem.

Has this setup ever worked reliably? If so, what changed?

How far, physically, is the downstairs computer from the router (number
of floors; straight-line distance (estimate))? What type of
construction is your home (steel/concrete; wood frame; plaster or
drywall)? Are there other electronic appliances near to or between the
router and the computer (microwave; cordless phone; baby monitor)?

Hi
When these symptoms occur the first step is to take the computer and place
it temporarily few feet away in the same room by the Wireless Router. By
doing so you can rule out distance and electrical noise interference and
find out what wrong, if any.
In case it is a distance problem, may be this can Help.
