We have a product testing program that needs to run 24x7 on a Windows 2000
computer. Naturally, for security, we cannot have a user logged in with the
screen unlocked so we need something that will allow the computer to run,
but prevent access.

The software that the in house programmer developed is a P.O.S. so if you
lock the computer screen with CTRL+ALT+DEL, the software hangs after a
while. Plus they would still like to be able to see how the tests are going
on the screen. I also tried a program called Transparent Screen Saver that
works very well, however again, this programmers P.O.S software craps out
when the TSS is running as well. He says he is unable to fix the program,
but I suspect more like a combination of unwilling and unable.

Before I just yank the network card out and lock the PC in the cabinet so
only the screen and keyboard hang out the side I would like to see if there
is something else available. Are there any type of key devices out their
(like a usb key) where if the key is not in the computer, just the keyboard
and mouse lock. This way the screen stays active, but inaccessible?

I have seen a couple where pulling out the USB key causes the screen saver
to kick in, but again, screen savers are a problem for this POS software
that needs to run.

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

Here's a starting point I think:

That looks like, actually, it might do what you want.
