need recommandation on budget videocard that will run doom 3 at 1024X768 med image quality for under

i have radeon 8500 and it runs choppy even at 640X480 low image
quality. i would like to upgrade the videocard to run it at 1024X768
med image quality. i have amd xp 2400, 512mb ddr, 8mb 160bg hd.....

I guess you'r best option would be R9800PRO(256MB) but then your CPU
would be a bottleneck.Try with the R9600XT(256MB).

For under $100? Better hope the graphics card fairy comes tonight and
leaves a 6800 Ultra under your pillow 'cause that's the only way a 2400
has a chance to run med quality @ 1024x768.

If you shop around, you might find a used 9700pro for close to $100 but
you need to upgrade your CPU if you want to play @ higher rez.

ATI 9600 pro/xt and another 512mb ram
or an nvidia equivalent. dont know about $100
