NForce2 chipset is the very best for a 2500+ IMO.

I have four Abit NF7s (2 '-S' & 2x vanilla) & they all work fine. NF7-S
onboard sound is better quality than vanilla NF7 & you don't _have_ to run
SATA hard drives. I have my AIW 8500DV on an NF7-S v2.0 with a 2500+ at
12.5x192 for 2.4GHz for my 'general use' machine under WinXP Home - the
DX9.0b TV 'bug' is a pain but it'll get fixed by M$ eventually I guess, just
avoid DX9.0b for the moment.

VIA KT600 should be good too and you only need a single stick of memory for
good performance as it isn't dual channel memory - there's only a small
performance gain from dual channel DDR (ie. NForce2) with Athlon as it's FSB
is only DDR. KT600 is the KT400A chipset with VIA's latest Southbridge. I
haven't tried one as I have plenty of machines already - I'm waiting for a
dual Opteron desktop board before I bend my plastic again. ;-)

I have an ASUS A7N8X motherboard, with a 2600+ and 512 mb of CAS2 DDR Ram at
PC 333 (it can do PC400, but asynchronous mode is slower so there is no
point). The chipset is nForce 2. Get anything from a decent brand with
nForce 2. When I got my system maybe a month or so ago no one was
recommending anything from VIA or SIS when I asked about those boards, they
said nForce 2 was where your best bet was. This was my original assumption
anyways, I just wanted peoples opinions.
