Need ot run chkdsk, Vista says I need elevated mode

I'm having problems with an external HDD and I want to run chkdsk. I invoke
the DOS prompt with chkdsk L:\ and it says that I can't and that I don't have
sufficient priviledges ane I need to be in elevated mode. I am
"Administrator". How do I run this utility??

then type in "format X: /fs:fat32" be sure to have a raw allocation on
the drive, this worked for my half terabyte so it should work up to 2tb
