Jacqui

I need to change my operating system from Windows NT to
Windows XP. (The NT is not compatible with several
printers I have tried to install.) How do I change the
operating system without losing any of the programs or
files that I already have set-up on the computer??
Thanks for your help - I am not a computer wiz.

A Google search for "xp upgrade nt" returned several pages
of hits. NT desktop OS is a supported upgrade path but
there are some issues you may want to research before you
begin the upgrade. Only XP Pro is supported for upgrades of
NT.

Here is the MS page(s)

Here are the MS install instructions( more links on the
page)

Jacqui,
I'm not one to be giving advice, however, I recently purchased a printer at
a garage sale which had previously been used with a Windows98 machine . I
installed it on my NT machine and it worked. Possibly you have other issues
that prevent you using these printers ? Maybe someone more knowledgeable
could advise you as to what these other issues might be.
PS. The printer I purchased was from a relative, so it was returnable. I
would not advise going garage saleing for a printer.
