Hi Kelsey,
Check the notes in the DVD Software section of my website.
My laptop is a year old now and it came with a DVD burner and MyDVD. I'm not
a big disc burner as I don't own a DVD player.... but I did use MyDVD to
illustrate a book I was working on last year. I crossed my fingers after
reading about so many burning issues, and it worked because each of them
burned perfectly. I couldn't find a player they wouldn't work in.
But MyDVD is a basic app... fine if you don't want to get into more complex
DVD authoring. You might stay in the Sonic line as they have some kind of
alliance with Microsoft. For example, if you burn a VCD with PhotoStory,
you'll see that it is using the Sonic disc burning engine.
You usually get software bundled with your DVD burner... so it seems like a
good starting point. If it works fine, no need to look for something else.
One issue I'm aware of from the zillions of posts I read are those of MM2
making type I DV-AVI files and some software needing type II, which means an
extra conversion step. Another issue is quality.... DVDs need MPEG2 files
and the software that converts it to MPEG2 will do so with good, better or
best quality. If visual quality is a concern, you should explore the quality
dimension.... and consider getting/using TMPGEnc to do the conversions to
MPEG2 regardless of the authoring/burning software.

I had written previously about having a problem with Movie Maker & Sony's
Click to DVD. Although both programs came in the computer package, after
many e-mails to Sony techs., I've been told that they are just not
compatable. Now I get to fork out some more money for a different DVD
authoring software. I've heard that Sonic MYDvd and Nero are both good. I
could really use some advise. I'll need to make a few copies of each
edited video, so a program that accounts for multiple copies would be nice.
Before I buy ANYTHING I want to be sure that it will work with Movie Maker.
Could someone give me a few pros & cons of the available software. Thanks!!!!!
