need network help

hello, im 14 and trying to set up my wireless network.
Ive hooked up my router to my primary computer and my
cable modem and everything works fine on my main
computer. I have a VAIO laptop with a wireless network
card integrated in it, also with windows XP home on it.
When I try to connect to the wireless network, I type in
the WEP key which is 64 bit hex. After i type it in and
hit ok I go back to the place and it only has 8 digits
instead of all 10. then if i take the WEP key off and it
says "allow me to connect...." and I check the box and
click ok the internet still wont work for me. any help at
all would help me a lot.

Remove the WEP Key on both the router (access point) and the laptop
temporarilly until you get it working. Make sure you have the same SSID on
the router (access point) and laptop. Make sure the card is set for
infrastructure mode so it can connect to your router (access point).
Configure the laptop TCP/IP settings for your LAN. Check to ensure XPs zero
config utility and the laptop's wireless card utility are not both trying
to control the wireless connection, use one or the other.

If these steps do not help, you may want to try posting on
alt.internet.wireless.
