I bought a dell 4550 desktop... everything was fine, then one day Windows started to freeze-up more and more.. I talked to dell , And we tested the IDE.. Everything passed... They say that the windows Has a glitche in it..I did a step by step reinstall, And nothing has changed.. But now, I have misssing drivers, Lost programs. And enough frustrations to fill the grand canyon.. I can't even get or run msconfig.. it pops up for five seconds and it dissappears all by itself.. I can't find out what programs are running... can someone give me some solutions. PLEASE !!

Something nefarious is interfering with your computer.

1. check for computer virus with up to date virus checking software
2. check for spy-bot programs
3. ensure you use a firewall when on the internet

The advice from Dell re "windows has a glitch in it" ... unless they
were explicit in telling you what the "glitch" was, doesn't sound like
you received wise support. Especially since they are the supplier of
Windows for your.

Your reinstall should not have ended up with missing drivers ... but
then this is what Dell told you to do, sadly. At the same time, the
root cause (probably a virus or something) is still there?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Sorry, but Dell is your *only* source of support - MS do not, cannot and
will not assist with OEM installations.

If i reinstall again.. I lost the package that my Xp came in.. How would i find my OEM number. on my computer.
