I am interested in buying another drive for my ASUS N61JQ-X1 notebook.
Two drives currently under consideration are ...

1) Seagate Momentus 7200.4 (ST9500420AS)
2) Western Digital Scorpio Black

Comments? Suggestions?

Or, will a 5400 RPM drive be better as far as heat goes?

Yes. But the notebook currently has a 7200 rpm drive in it, so it should be able to cool it fine.

Okay, I'll stick with a 7200 RPM drive then. Thanks!

Cooling isn't your only consideration when adding
a hard drive to a laptop. What about battery life?

Thats unlikely to change much given he is only going from a 320GB drive to a 500GB drive.

Good point. Thanks!

For my case, I won't be traveling much (in the foreseeable future) so
I can easily connect the adapter to an outlet.

Actually, my other old laptop is constantly connected to an outlet since
the battery has gone bad.

Oh. I read that as adding an additional drive instead of replacing a
drive.

You cant have two internal drives on that particular notebook.

And even if you could, you can always use the higher capacity battery
if you need the same time on battery with two internal drives.

Every generation of hard drives has maintained the same watt usage as
the previous generation, while increasing capacity. The capacity doesn't
affect power usage.

Some reviews mention reliability issues with the Seagate Momentus.
And, some reviews mention noise issues with the WD Scorpio Black.

For capacity, best value will be the deciding factor.
