Hello,

When a PDC NT4 is upgraded to 2003 DC, is NT4 BDC still doing their job?

And if 2003 DC crashed, can NT4 BDC be promoted to PDC without problem?

Thank you.

In Server 2000 or 2003 there is no more PDC or BDC, only
domain controllers. If you are going to do an upgrade you
should look at upgrading your entire enviroment. The
Active Directory replicates itself amongst DC's for its
redundancy.

Search MS Technet for strategies and How-to's. Beware...
this is no small task.

Well, I think my question is not clear.

In all articles I read, the best practice to upgrade WinNT4 to Win2003 with
a new machine is :
1) Install NT4 as BDC
2) Promote to PDC.
3) Upgrade to Windows 2003

And yahoo!!! it's work!!!

But I try to figure what happen if the new server crash before I upgrade my
BDC. Can I promote an existing BDC to PDC without problem after this crash?

Thanks.
