I am using the latest bios 1010 and it appears to support the drive without
installing the Dynamic Disk Overlay but my copy of Drive Image 2002 does not
work with it. Resizing the drive to 105 GB does not fix it.

What imaging programs are known to work with the big drives and which is
best?

I see ads for NortonWorks Pro 2003 and 2004 that include Ghost but with no
version listed. There is also a standalone Ghost 9 available. Is Ghost 9
what comes with some vintage of NortonWorks Pro?

I use Acronis Trueimage www.acronis.com you can download a free trial.

I also use TrueImage. It manages to create an image of a Windows boot
partition without the clumsy (and somestimes disastrous)
reversion to DOS for the actual image creation.<

The trial version of TrueImage is crippled and does not allow restoration of
the image it creates but I will download it anyway.

I've heard mostly good about that program but what I need is something that
will give me reasonable assurance that it will work with the subject drive.

The 48 bit LBA extension required for the big drives and the possibility of
BIOS overlays being required is a potential stumbling point for the program
and I want to make sure it can cope properly.

So, I ask, are either of you using TrueImage for drives larger than 137GB?

Thanks for your inputs.

I've used it to backup a drive of 200GB drive and a Raid0 array of four
120GB drives.

The diskwizard program that comes from seagate appears to be a disk image
program. Its designed to copy an old drive to a new seaggate drive and allow
you to boot from the new (seagate) drive. It certainly works for that Try
the seagate site for a copy.

I created images with the trial version and went through the restore up to
the last step which is disabled in the trial version. This program is fast
and easy to use ...I plan to buy it.

BTW, Acronis support says it will image SATA drives.

Thank you for answering my question.

JB

Yes...I've used that program. It's ok for preparing a new drive but that is
not what I want to do. I have verified that the trial version of TrueImage
works for what I want and plan to go with it.

Thanks for your input.

Acronis True Image 8.0 or Powerquest Drive Image 7.0 (now Symantec) will do
the job just fine. I have used them both on my 2 Seagate 160 GB SATA drives.
Of course if you want to keep using DI 2002 you could consider partitioning
the drive into e.g. 2 80 GB partitions. DI 2002 will work on 80 GB
partitions.

Sorry. The largest drive I am using is 120GB

I was about to buy TrueImage but I asked them if it required activation and
they said "There's no activation procedure, we provide our purchases with
serial codes."

I don't know if they mean each copy has a serial number for traceability or
if the number provides a "bonding" of some type to the machine that
downloaded it. I make lots of changes and would need to run it on my backup
machine as well.

Do they have a way of preventing users from doing that?
