Need huge help on Outlook 2007

A co-worker was given a new laptop and it's loaded w/office 2007. She's
having terrible trouble finding things in there and I have no idea how to
navigate.
We're going to do the tutorials online but in the meantime can someone tell
us how to save a document? She's clicking to save but then it's not there :(
Also... is outlook automatically edited by Work in this version because we
can't find how to make word the editor.
Can anyone please help? We also can't find the "normal" toolbar with File,
edit, etc in Outlook either <sigh>

Two methods - either click on the Office Button (the pizza) and use the Save
function there, or click on the drop-down arrow to the right of the Quick
Access Toolbar and add the "Save" icon to that.

Outlook uses it's own stub of Word, so yes and no. All the Word functions
that exist in Outlook are all the ones you get....

Should be there by default....Right-click on the toolbar, go to "Customize"
and on the Toolbars tab make sure that Menu Bar is checked - if it is, click
on Reset Toolbars and see if that helps.

In a document if you click the Round office Btn (Top left hand corner) you
will get various options to save.
There is also an options menu which allows you to set various defaults
(Usually the default save location is the Documents or My Documents folder,
depending whether you have Vista or not)

Outlook2007 uses Word2007 if available
Various toolbars are avilable via the View menu

in any office application - click on the "office orb" - it is probably
flashing right now - this is the old File menu with the save commands. There
is also a small save icon on the 'quick access toolbar' next to the office
icon/orb and title bar if you just need to save. But check out the orb menu
too. :)

There is only 1 editor in outlook - its Word and you can't change it.

The toolbars should be the old familiar one as the main outlook window does
not use the new ribbon - the email, appointment, tasks and contacts forms
will use the new ribbon since they use word as the editor. If you can't see
the toolbar in the main outlook window try removing the outcmd.dat file.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/getstarted/FX101055081033.aspx for the general Office tutorials - they are very helpful.

This page (and the others listed to the right) are a great help in making the transition as well:

for your specific questions, Outlook no longer use the full Word program for its optional editor but a cut down .dll to give it Word's abilities. To Save a document, press on that flashing orange pizza button in the upper left hand corner of any Office program. For the main Outlook Window, the :classic: toolbar should be available. For all parts of Outlook (messages, contacts, calendar items, etc.) the new Ribbon toolbars are normal, not the older pre-2007 toolbars.
