i installed win. xp on a computer that had xp already on
it but i was installing it on a seperate hard drive. when
i start the computer with the hard drive i installed xp
on i get a message saying ( invalid boot.ini file booting
from C:/windows )but when i installed xp it was in D:
drive is there a way to change the letter to C: ?

Edit Boot.ini

Standard Drive C: on first master hard drive.
D: would be partition (2)

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect

It may be more severe than that. If Setup detected two drives, it may
have decided that the boot drive (the one with ntldr et al on it) was
different than the system drive (the one with the \Windows directory).
You may have to boot the machine with the new hard drive in it from CD
and do a repair installation to correct this. Not sure if there's a
better way, though.

HTH!
