Emily

I purchased this computer from a friend of mine.
Everything I do is under her name (MAG). I have been
able to add programs, etc., and even use System Restore.
Everything has been fine until a couple of weeks ago.
Now when my computer starts up, it is at a blue screen
with "Administrator" (user name) and asks for a
password. It has not done this before. I just hit CTRL
ALT DEL twice and it comes up "MAG" (user name) and asks
for password, I just hit enter and it takes me to the
desktop. I would like to get her name off of here and
get the "Administrator" privelidges back that I had in
the beginning. Now when I try to use System Restore or
add a program, it tells me I don't have the authority, I
must be the Administrator. It doesn't really matter how
it happened, I just want to fix it.

Thank You,
Emily

Go to Control Panel, go to User Accounts, all the users that have been
created for this setup will show up on that screen. This way you'll know if
you're user is on that screen, whatever user you were previously using.
Even if you didn't have to log on, you still had an identity, XP requires
it.

If Mag is the only user, even with the welcome screen turned off, the only
user you will be able to access besides the hidden administrator account
will be Mag, hence, something might have happened to the other ID you were
using. You might find it under Documents and Settings in Explorer.
Expanding documents and settings should reveal all the user IDs on the
system.

You can turn off the welcome screen in the above user accounts area by
selecting "Change the way users log on or off" but that's not necessary.
Perhaps, you had been accessing the hidden administrator account and you
really shouldn't be working from there but rather under a user ID you create
with administrator privleges. Nonetheless, at the welcome screen or sign in
if you turn it off, type administrator as the user ID and leave the password
blank, that will sign you into the hidden account which might have been
where you were originally. This assumes no password was ever created for
the hidden admin account but it's worth a try.
