I have an Ibm series A laptop and two days ago i tried to
istall an Olympus Software cd which included Quicktime and
Camedia. The software was succesfully installed but when i
restarted my computer and tried to run it it gave me an
error.I unistalled and reinstalled many times but nothing
changed,so i figured the cd was faulty.Later that day i
tried to install Microsoft office but the installation
setup could not run.I checked my cd rom and it is properly
working. I don't know what's wrong.Nothing seems to be
working.I figured that i should install Windows XP instead
the 2000 i have now because i'm more confident with them,
but i can't get that either. It gives me an error and i
tried to bypass it by pressing the F7 button as suggested
in your support web page.So now i'm sure i want to format
the hard disk but before doing that i want to be sure that
Windows WILL install.Here's my question:
Do you advise me to format my hard disk and if not why?
Is my problem a hardware or software one?
Any alternative solutions to my problem?
Please reply as soon as possible because i am a student
and i need my laptop for my work.Thank you
Alex

Whose support page? Where does it give this info?

WIth the lack of information you've given, I have no idea if the computer
could handle it, of if you would be able to do it without encountering more
problems.
Is my problem a hardware or software one?

Flip a coin? You haven't given enough information to even guess.
Any alternative solutions to my problem?

Take it to a reputable shop and give them details on the errors and have
them fix it. If you keep taking wild guesses and uninstalling and
reinstalling things, it's only going to get worse.
