I just installed Win XP on my computer and for what ever reason when the
harddrives are being used constantly the CPU is maxed and everything slows
down. It happens when I listen to mp3 and video. I have a P4 1.8 Gig
processor so it not that. Everything ran fine on my previous operating
systm which was Win 2000. Any ideas.

Make sure all drives are in DMA mode.
Disable file indexing.

My harddrives are still giving me trouble. They are set to "PIO mode"
instead of DMA. I cant seem to change them for some odd reason. Its set to
"DMA if availible" but the current mode is PIO. "DMA if Availible" is
greyed out so I cant do anything with it.

A little more info on the problem. The computer boots up fine and seems to
run ok but when I open mp3 folder the CPU is maxed. It stops after a while
(4-5 min) but when I play a movie it does the seem thing and the movie is
really choppy. Only about 1 frame every 6 seconds.

Anyone have any thoughts. I could really use some help.
