GOOD day to you all. I am mark.. i need help... I don't
really know if you guys can help me... I'm part of a tech
support group for a major computer manufacturer... I need
help..
I get a lot of calls about people who have Windows
errors... These people have important files needed to be
saved but they have no way of going to the regular desktop
or even safe mode... what i can do is just go to recovery
console where I can actually see the files they want to
save... the problem is when we try the dos command COPY
on the files it says that we do not have permission or
something like that even if we logged in as the
administrator...

IT will be great for me and my customers if one of you can
tell me how I can retrieve the files manually.. Is there
like a BOOT UP floppy for windows XP??
Much thanks ...

Hi

Have you suggested a 'Repair' install of XP, which should retain programs,
files and settings? By default some folders can't be accessed via the
Recovery Console including:

Program Files
Documents and Settings

You need to enable the SET command to access these folders, but that needs
to done from inside Windows.
