I don't know if this is the appropriate place for firewall help, but the
newsgroups I've found for firewalls are populated only with spam and
advertisements for britney spears nude. Can someone direct me to the right
newsgroup.

The problem is that usually ZoneAlarm will ask me when a newly installed
program tries to access the internet. I have a new program that doesn't
seem to be recognized (but is blocked) enough to generate the "ask" screen.
I'm trying to find the solution to this. Any ideas would be really helpful.

Try the newsgroup comp.security.firewalls. There is usually a good response
to questions there. Failing that, you could ask your question at the forum
at www.zonelabs.com itself.

When you post to that newsgroup, specify which ZA you are using (free, pro
etc) and also define which program it is that you expect ZA to respond to.
It is possible that the application in question does not need outside access
to the internet, in which case you would not get an access prompt anyway.

Failing all of that, post back here and I will see if I can give it a bash -
although I am not an expert, but I use ZA as well.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Martin. I put a message on that newsgroup and I also found a
ZoneAlarms forum and put a message there. I can't seem to access
www.zonelabs.com since I installed IE6, still trying to figure that out.

Problem solved. First I had to turn back on the alerts. Then I could see
the IP address of the blocked program. Next, at a suggestion from the
ZoneAlarm forum, I entered the IP address into the ZoneAlarm list of Trusted
Sites. Then bingo, fait accompli!

Thanks for posting back with your solution so that everyone else can
benefit.

Congratulations.
