Greetings Vince,

It sounds like Windows Messenger is starting and logging you on while you want to use MSN
Messenger 6.1. To correct this, start Windows Messenger (click Start, then All Programs,
then Windows Messenger if you can't find it), click the Tools menu, then Options, then
Preferences tab, uncheck 'Run this program when Windows starts' or 'Run Windows Messenger
when Windows starts' (depending on version), and then click OK.

Also, do you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed? Norton added a new "instant messaging
scanning" feature to Norton Antivirus 2003, which can conflict with Messenger and cause some
of this behavior. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon
in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click
Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.

Hi Jonathan, I Using Messenger v6.1 I am able to go into the audio/vid
tunning wizard, and I can see myself on video and passed audio test
during the tuning. However, video working on both side but no audio.
When we used v4.x everything works flawlessly with same hardware (no
change on Linksys router). Check your sugestion on xp network
connection>>firewall disable. I saw somewhere on the internet that MS
Messenger's audio does not work. Anyone has the similar problem or any
suggestion. Thanks.

With router in place Audio does not work.

I have a 4 port linksys router (v2 software) and it does not allow messenger audio to function. We request audio conversations, but no audio is transmitted either way.

When I bypass the router, Messenger works as it should. Audio is fine. My router is a BEFSR41 (version 2). at the july 2003 (current latest software level).

Their newer wireless router works just fine with messenger and audio, so it is either in the microcode or in some settings for passthrough.

Does anyone know what tcp/ip port numbers are used for audio? Or the settings for this version 2 router.
