Need Help with Update

Keith

When playing any web based games, like on Yahoo. I get a
Install on Demand box that pops up that tells me that I
need to install Jave Virtual Machine. I click the
download button, but it doesn't download, I just get sent
to a Microsoft Update web page that says:

We're sorry. The page you are viewing requires that you
have a more recent version of the Microsoft Virtual
Machine on your system. To obtain an updated version of
the Microsoft Virtual Machine, please go to Windows
Update.

The last 2 words are a link that sends me to Windows
update, it scans my PC and gives me a list of available
updates. But the Java virtual machine isn't one of them.
Where do I get this download from? And why is this
happening?

Perform the following:

Download & install MS Virtual Machine Build 3805.
Then visit the Windows Update website to obtain the
security updated version (Build 3810).

MS produced a Java that extends the language as defined by Sun, so that
it would 'work better' with Windows. This was not included in windows
XP, but was available as a separate download, and included in XP SP1

(There appear to be sites that have taken advantage of this, and will
not work with the Sun one).

Sun sued MSoft, and the ruling in the case prohibits MS from making
'their' engine available as a download - so it is left out of the
revised SP1a

You can still get a 3805 or 3809 build from some sites that are *not*
MSoft sites - and MSoft is not going to object.
eg 3805 from Http://www.bigblackglasses.com/staff/downloads/msjavx86.exe

Once you have such an older version you can get the 816093 'critical
security update' which is effectively a complete build, 3810
