Anyway, my computer is fairly old;

Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer INC.
Model: A7S333
Vendor: SiS
CPU: AMD Athlon XP
Physical mem.: 768MB
Vid. Processor: GeForce4 MX440
OS: Win XP - SP2

and i'm not that sharp at computers either.
So... heres my problem, today I decided to get a part for my computer: a USB 2.0 5 port PCI card. (Yes, until now and still am using USB 1.0... oh the pain)
After following instructions a couple of times I found my attempts to work the card futile.
To start off with, Device Manager detected the card as an unidentified PCI card and failed to work. After following the instructions provided a couple of times. I've decided to give up.
The PCI card is made by Swann and is called a 'USB 2.0 5 port PCI Card'.

Anybody have any clue in hell what is wrong?

Thanks in advance.

I've tried all my PCI slots, what do you mean by driver issue?
I forgot to mention that awhile ago I tried to install a firewire PCI card as well also to no avail.

Again sorry for being such a novice and again thanks in advance.

What I meant is that are you sure you are using the correct drivers?

If this device doesn't work, there is a chance it could be corrupted. Try it on another PC.

Have you looked into getting a USB back plate something like this:

You really can find it cheaper elsewhere, providing that your motherboard has the correct connectors, this will be suffice enough to complete the tasks that you require.

You may need to update your motherboard Bios . Look om the motherboard manufacturers site for details .

Ok, i've found a mother board BIOS but i cant seem to use it cause it's an .AWD file extension.

I've searched google for tools and programs that read these files but i've so far had no luck.
Any suggestions?

You need to check what version of bios you have at the moment to see if you need the update . In the link below You'll find the lates bios and a tool for installing them and somewher on the site you'll find a guide . However your board may not support USB 2 so I would find out more info before doing anything .

Hi m8:)
first thing is...don't worry;) And this may sound like a really frustrating response...but please come back again if u need more help.
Second thing is i'm not that sharp at computers either...u had the common sense to come to a friendly forum like PCR and ask a straightforward question.
Third...I think I know a few things about computers, but ur question isn't that easy to answer...so I must have a few things to learn too!;)

Best way to start is to tell us what Motherboard you have and we can then deternimne how many USB connections you have. Also tell us if this is a backplate with USB or something else..?

I remember not long ago asking the same sort of question and I'm still not sure I understand what I was told:D

We might not be able to solve your problem, but knowing the peeps on this site, I can guarantee that we will do the best we can my friend...so don't worry if u think ur asking a daft question...I ask loads of 'em myself;)

Ok, so this is it so far, i've managed to update my Motherboard BIOS from 1003 to 1006.
And now I'm trying to install the PCI Card again following all the instructions and such and yet still no luck...
Argh I'm starting to believe this is a lost cause, maybe I should just go and refund my PCI Card and call it a bad day?

Double post sorry. When you say backplate do you mean it fits into the back of the computer? If so then yes it's a PCI backplate. The Card has 4 USB 2.0 slots.

Oh and Psd99, do they sell those things at stores? Since I dont have access to Ebay or any form of internet funds.

In the User Guide for the A7S333 motherboard, it's stated that

[Five 32-Bit PCI slots are avaliable on this motherboard. The slots support PCI cards such as LAN card, SCSI card, USB card and other cards that comply with PCI specifications.]

If it isn't too much hassle (I know I'm asking for alot..) could somebody clear up for me what the specifications of PCI are?

Although I refunded the card ($50 AusD xD i know expensive/ ripoff) I still want to learn about my computer so this kind of thing dosen't come up again.

Thanks in advance.
