Need help with routing of TCP port 5190

Ron

I have a Win2K advanced server with clients connecting to
the server using DHCP on the local LAN interface.

These clients have internet access through internet
connection sharing from the external LAN interface.

The clients are having some trouble with AOL instant
messenger. They are not able to send any files using
the "send file" option. I think it has to do with TCP
port 5190. I believe that I need to set up some sort of
routing for this port. Ideally I would want to use NAT to
establish the routing (routing and remote access service)
but NAT and ICS (internet connection sharing) cannot be
simulataneously enabled.

I know it's not a firewall issue because that has been
disabled during testing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ron

Hi Ron,

Yes, the issue is with the firewall. Just disabling the firewall does not stop it from blocking
ports. Only way to do that is to uninstall it or take it out of the picture if on a separate box.

Enabling the following ports allows Voice, PC to Phone, Messages, and Full File transfer
capabilities
NOTE: Shut off any personal firewall programs such as BlackIce, ZoneAlarm, etc.
Ports 6891-6900 enable File send,
Port 6901 is for voice communications
IN TCP 6891 - 6900
IN TCP 1863
IN UDP 1863
IN UDP 5190
IN UDP 6901
IN TCP 6901

Windows OS does not block any ports. And there is no need for a mapping of the ports. The
firewall needs to open additional ports.

As you know, the more ports you open, the more vulnerable you set yourself up to be. But
unfortunatley there is a give and take with security versus convenience.

Good luck,

Thanks,
Gary
