I have noticed that every time a USB printer gets installed on my machine the Virtual Portname is getting changed. It started out as USB001: and now is USB003:.
The problem is that I have a print script that is shared and needs the device name inside the script so it knows where to direct it.
The script points to USB001: but on this machine the port name changed after changing out the printer with an identical model because of a hardware problem.
Is there an editor or registry entry someplace where I can rename the port on this specific machine? There are no other USB devices connected, and all I want to do is change the virtual device name.
Thanks,
