Hello All,

I've just joined this group as I was looking for removal of some spyware from
my machine. I hope someone here may be able to provide some help..

I'm not sure through which site, but my IE has got a spyware because of which
some of the words in the web pages contain double underlines..like for example,
if I open up www.google.com, and at the end of that page there are words
"web pages"..and those words appear with double underlines..when I move mouse
over that link..it shows something like following in a pop-up window:

services. Complete online solutions with flexible packages and
dedicated support. 4 Sta...
ads.networksolutions.com

---

The "SEE MORE RESULTS" point to srch-results.com..I tried to google for some related
words like "e-commerce" and I again got the same double underlines over many words
and each of those words have similar popup window when I move mouse over that word
and the "SEE MORE RESULTS" point to the same srch-results.com website..I fear this
is some spyware, but I could not find how to get rid of this..I googled and got a link
on this forum: https://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-1698691.php
My problem is almost similar, but the solution given on that thread is probably not
working for me...

I'd greatly appreciate if someone can please suggest something to remove this spyware..

Thanks in advance,

Regards
BG

Welcome bg22

I use more than one antipest its called multilayered security and pest scanning is one layer.
Pest scanner look for adware and trojans differnent ways, one will find what another will not.
I have about eight pest scanners install, but dont do that will antiviruis because of conflicts.

Another layer is to use a alterntaive browser. Dont surf with IE that is danger.
Use search engines Google and Yahoo. Mozzila K-melon and Mozzila Firefox
I like the browser K-meleon better with Java turned off.

Another layer is a full backup of your system.

Excellent freeware google for these

Spybot search and destroy
Ad-aware
A2

Good working freeware

Microsoft AntiSpyware
Ewido Security Suite
Disspy

For about $30
PestPatrol

You might want to do a online security test a PCflank

OOoops im laysi at spell check.. Surf Safe

You don't have a "problem" ... ;)

The double-underlined green links that you see on some pages are of a new advertising technology called IntelliTXT.

What Is IntelliTXT?
IntelliTXT scans each page for both appropriate keywords and contextual relevancy. The keywords have been chosen to be relevant to our site, such as "CPU," "PDA," or "digital camera." If a match is found, a clearly visible advertising link … indicated by a green or yellow double underline … is automatically generated. Some pages will have no links; others may have as many as five.

No code or information is passed to your computer, so IntelliTXT does not compromise your privacy. If you're not using a recent browser such as Internet Explorer 5.0, Netscape 7.2, or Firefox 0.8 or later, you won't see IntelliTXT links at all.

How Does It Work?
Passing your mouse pointer over a keyword will pop up a small box or "tool tip" that contains a short text advertisement. If you want to find more information, simply click on the keyword as you would any ordinary link, and you'll be taken to the advertiser's site.

Thanks guys. Please find my follow up below:

First,
I ran Spybot S & D, Lavasoft Ad-aware and Microsoft's Antispy to search for this
problem, they all detected some spyware and removed them. But still many words
in IE pages appear with ugly double underlines. Would you recommend any other
specific tool that may help..I was looking for this problem on Google and came across
the HijackThis tool, I've not yet installed that, but do you think it may be helpful?

Second,
The only reason I'm concerned about this thing is that those double underlines do not
appear in my Mozilla Firefox 1.0.6. So, that means the pages that are fetched in
IE, somehow get modified on my machine itself, and hence the possibility of spyware.
And anyway, these are not the green double underlines as Muckshifter is suggesting,
these are blue double underlines and anyway they are annoying..Is there a possible
way to stop this behavior?

Thanks once again,

Regards,
BG

They can be any colour the web page designer likes ... use an OLD browser and you will not see them ... or, stick with Mozilla Firefox 1.0.6, which blocks them.

Either way ... it is not spyware. ;)

muckshifter knows his stuff. I havent hear of Intellitxt

Microsoft sayed that they will have a mozzilla version of IE Im waiting what happend to it.
If your IE version isnt 6.0 with SP1
Get it Google microsoft downloads

When Im fixin browsers I try resetting everything to default.

Microsoft sayed end of July what happened.
If you cant fix it ya will have to wait for Microsoft.

I do have IE 6.0 with XP SP2..

Thanks anyways..I'll stick to firefox for a while now

When Mirosoft has the new mozzlia version of IE let us know cause the old is makin me sick.

Try cuting and pasting all the urls in my favotites in to a new file. customized hijacks that cant be detected can be disabled that way. Run yr antipest again afterwards.

Don surf with IE only use it on sites ya trust.
