I love my NEC Superscript 860. But when my original cart started to fail, I
figured I'd just trash the printer -- new carts were $129 minimum, and new laser
printers aren't much more than that. But then I saw a lot of carts being sold on
Ebay for $40-50, and even though many of them had expiration dates going back to
2000-2002, I figured I'd try to grab one cheap. ( I had contacted many buyers of
older ones, and they all confirmed that the carts were working fine).
Well, I got one cheap, expiration June 2002. Package was still sealed, as was
the cart in its bag. But when I try to print, the "paper" light goes on. Nothing
happens, though the hopper is in fine shape. Same thing if I try a manual feed.
I didn't realize that (I guess) it's the cart that actually grabs and pulls the
paper from the hopper (if I'm understanding it right), so that if the
toner/whatever in the cart is frozen, it won't grab and pull the paper. Do I
have it right?
I have tried shaking and rolling the cart extensively -- even manually rolling
the drum roll around (using the gears, not my fingers on the drum). But I still
can't get it to work.
Do I just chalk it up to taking a chance and failing, and go ahead and toss the
whole thing, or does anyone have a fix I can try?
Thanks in advance.
