I am using XP SP2.

I set up a new slave HD with two partitions. The first I named
PARTITION ONE (13 characters) somehow. It works fine, and so do all
executables within that partition. I wanted to rename the second
partition as PARTITION TWO (again, 13 characters), but XP will not let
me exceed 11 characters.

So, how in the heckee did I name the first partition with more than 11
characters? And, how do I do the same with the second partition?

Dang!

Thanks

Why bother with 'partition' use 'One' and 'Two' if you cannot think of
anything else more appropriate.

Thanks for your interest. I agree. I just figure if I could name the
first one 13 characters, so should I be able to name the second.
Since I cannot, I have to wonder why.

try naming it: Partition 2

Naming the first Partition C: and the second Partition D: works fine for
most people.

Thanks

That's probably the answer since my partitions are indeed FAT32.
I just wonder why I got away with over 11 for the first partition. Oh
well..
