Need Help with Email Configuration

I am trying to configure my Windows Mail with a new computer and am having
some problems. I intially got it set up, it went through the
sending/receiving download and pulled my emails off of their servers and
worked fine the first time I did it.....However, once I closed the
application and reopened it, I keep getting this error:

"The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'incoming.verizon.net',
Server: 'incoming.verizon.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"

I dont understand why it initially worked, but now it wont. BTW, I am using
the same settings that I used on my old PC for incoming/outgoing servers.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

FYI, this appears to only be affecting my incoming.....as I just sent some
test emails and my outgoing emails are just fine.
 
That type of error is often caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly intrusive antivirus programs.

Thanks so much for the tips, I removed my virus software and sure enough, my
email works now. I had been reluctant to do this, because i just thought,
"surely" that is not my problem.....but low and behold, it was. I guess I
now need to look at Avast.
