Hi,

I am running Windows XP Home. I've had to do a system recovery using
the disk that came with the computer. Before this happened I could
right click on the desk top and choose to hide the desktop icons.
Since the recovery I don't see this option when I right click the disk
top. I see it in the windows registry. But don't know how to get it
to work. Can someone please help me get this option back?

Thanks for any and all repsponses.

Right click Desktop | Properties | Arrange Icons By |
Show Desktop Icons

Show Desktop Icons either has a checkmark by it or it doesn't.

Show Desktop Icons
[[Hide or show all desktop icons. When this command is checked, desktop
icons are displayed on your desktop.]]

"Show Desktop icons" and other options missing in the Desktop right-click
menu
http://www.winxptutor.com/showdesktopicons.htm

Show Desktop Icons will not display if you have unchecked:
Allow Web content to be added to the desktop
in TweakUI.

If this is unchecked:
TweakUI
[+] Explorer
Allow Web content to be added to the desktop
[[If this is unchecked then the ability to add Web Content to the desktop
will be disabled.]]

You will *not* see:

Right click Desktop | Properties | Desktop tab | Customize Desktop button |
Web tab

Or....
Right click Desktop | Arrange Icons By | Show Desktop Icons

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Value Name: NoActiveDesktop
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value Data: 0 or 1
0 = Allow Web content to be added to the desktop
1 = Don't allow Web content to be added to the desktop

Also, *.jpg files will not be listed in...
Display Properties | Desktop tab | Background

Thanks Wes,

TweakUI is where ther problem was. I just couldn't figure it out for
the life of me. I really appreciate you taking your time to help me.

Thank you very much.

Hi Wes,

One more thing. When the icons are hid on the desktop there was a
little black double arrow to the right next to the tray area. When
you clicked on this it would show a list of the icons instead of
having to show them on the desktop. Would you have any idea of how to
get it back? It's not showing up for some reason.

Thanks for any assistance you may be able to offer.
