Hi
I stupidly removed all devices from
device manager - sound section

now after installing a new sound card - sb16 pnp
I don't have a vol control or mixer
I have searched for hours and no luck

how does one restore the default sound settings
for win 2000 pro?

I know in w98 you can do it from add/remove programs add windows
components - multimedia

but 2000 does not have that option

I've tried using different sound cards
and many other things

TIA

Hi!

Do you have any sound at all coming from the sound card, at any time?

If not, you may have a driver problem. Try clicking Start, choosing Run...
and keying in (sans quotes) "SNDVOL32". See if the mixer comes up. If it
doesn't you have a driver problem or are missing key support software.

Look under Sounds & Multimedia in your Control Panel. The volume control may
just be turned off and not displaying in the system tray. Right on the
sounds tab you can turn the display of the volume control on your taskbar on
and off.

sorry , I mean no volume control whatsoever
or mixer

if I click on volume control in access/entertainment
it errors with "no mixer device available , add mixer using add/remove
hardware

but I tried that and there is no mixer there to install

help
or I'm faced with a fdisk / reinstall
and in this case that's a ton of work

TIA
