Doesn't anyone ever help in here? Original post on the
16th. My problem is I can not search the web using MSN
Search. When I click on the search tab in MSN.com I get
the menu page but nothing on it works, a new page opens
but with the message that it is temporarily unavailable
and try again in a few minutes. I also get this same
thing when I click on the best of the web button on the
tool bar. I have MSN Explorer also and it's the same
there. Can't someone please help!!!

I did use Spybot S&D and I used Hijack This, they helped
get rid of the bad stuff but NOT this search problem.

I would suspect then that MSN Explorer (MSN8?) may be part of (if not *the*)
problem. Try posting to microsoft.public.msn.dicussion newsgroup.

In the meantime, what Windows version are you using?

IE Help>About> What version (e.g., 6.0.2600.0000)?

IE Help>About>Update Versions> post everything you see here.

How do you connect? Is the machine on a network? ...using a router?

Is this a sudden, new problem or an ongoing one? What changes did you make
to your system just before the problem started?

Post the complete error message.

Temporarily disable all third-party applications (anti-virus, firewall,
"system" tools, pop-up/ad blockers) to see if they may be interfering?

See these recent threads for some possibilities (you are not alone):

Other than some critical security patches which were released just yesterday
(23 July-03), your system appears to be up-to-date as far as MS is
concerned.

Re: #6, I believe what you meant to say was that it started happening
*again* after using HijackThis, though it did work for a very brief period.
This suggests you may not have sought Updates for either HijackThis or
SpyBot before using the application. You should always seek Updates before
each use (trust me). What was advised in SpywareInfo Support Forums thread?
Please let us know.

The "snurl" is merely a link to a Google Groups page. Just copy/paste it
into your browser and click GO:

http://snurl.com/1vgw

If the linked page doesn't open, is it the error message the same as the
previous one(s)?

Thank you for your complete (eventually) replies. It's as important to know
"where you stand" so many possibilities can be ruled out.

Installing and running MSN Explorer/MSN8 can cause a lot of changes and
complications. Not many in this newsgroup are very familiar with either
application so again I suggest you also post to this newsgroup:

Sorry it took so long to get back here, my ISP was down
for over 3 hours.
I have updated Hijack This and Spybot. Reran, with no
change. I'm really stuck. Help
The following is several things that Hijack This told me:

Found serveral references, mostly different regions:
http://search.msn.co.in/dnserror.aspx
http://uk.search.msn.com/dnserror.aspx
MSN Search - unstable
Help - IE6 Unable to Access MSN for 3 daysWell, we are
getting somewhere.
Shortcuts work but page displays error.

Does it look like this?

http://uk.search.msn.com/dnserror.aspx

Click and see. looks identical to yours.

That's what I meant by regional, as in your LOCATION.
These errors happen randomly it seems, nationwide and
worldwideHowever, the fact that you get an error on the
msn page itself looks like regional problem with http
requests.
No other explanation, I'm afraid...

I've been going thru some of the other posts here, and I
have discovered that I also cannot search from the ie
address bar, I get the same error message. Also as an
example when I type coral calcium in the search bar I get
the MSN Search page with the same message about not
available right now and the address bar reads this:
http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?
srch=104&FORM=AS4&q=coral+calcium.

I have also noticed from other posts that I am missing
this in the registry from the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Searchurl (do I need it?):
"="+"
"&"="%26"
"+"="%2B"
"#"="%23"
"?"="#3F"
"="="#3D"

Sorry, I'm new to this posting stuff, but could you
please look at my posting above on July 26? Thank you
