Need Help - USB Connectors

My MOBO has a header for extra USB, and I have what I will call an
'adaptor' that mounts on the back of my tower and has two USB ports
plus another 15-hole plug (7+8), both of which have small cables to
facilitate connecting to the MOBO. The USB is easy - but I am
wondering what the other one is for? And for that matter what do you
call this 'adaptor' - I tried to find one on Google but didn't find
anything similar.

One last question out of curiosity. Since this 'adaptor' has two USB
ports going to one MOBO header, can I use two USB peripherals at same
time plugged into that 'adaptor' (e,g, my flatbed scanner and separate
printer)?

Thanks

I think you're talking about a PCI Adapter, a device that plugs into a
motherboards PCI slot to perform some function like a sound card,
USB/Firewire so "adapter" is correct. I'm uncertain what device you have
but you may be able to find out by downloading the following free utility
called "system information for windows." just run the .exe file... it won't
install anything but simply runs and checks out your system then displays
information about it. Look in PCI under the Hardware section and you should
see a name for your device listed. You can then google the device and find
more information about it.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi, It is called a USB Header and yes you can use both of the USB
ports. This NOT a PCI device, but is a header designed to go into the
appropriate connector on the motherboard. The other 15 pin port uis a
games port and connects to the appropriate games port connector on the
motherboard. You will need to consult your motherboard manual to find
out where the connectors are. If you already have a games port on the
ATX output panel at the back of the computer you will probably not
require a second one.
