Sam

I just went through the process of installing Windows XP
and of course you have to activate Windows, you have so
many days to activate it or you won't be able to use the
OS. I then get yellow sign saying "There is a ip address
conflict with another system on the network". The
machines are connected by a router.

Any suggestions?

do you have static ip? posting ipconfig /all here may help.

Are you using static or dynamic IP? Looks like static. Are there other
computers on your network?

go to a command prompt and type exactly this:

ipconfig /all

Press enter. What is the output?

I have DHCP but I can use the Internet, but this only
happens when I try to activate the software. I can't
activate it.
