I have created a movie project in Movie Maker 2 for my son's baseball team that I would like to transfer to DVD or VHS. I have been unable to get the program to save my movie that is 45 minutes in length. I captured the video from my Sony mini DV camera and added titles, effects and music. It looks great in Movie Maker 2, however, I can't do anything else until I have a saved movie. I am not sure if it a software or hardware problem.

Here are my hardware specs: Dell Dimension Pentium 4 at 2.60GHz with HT
1280MB DDR SDRAM at 400MHz
80GB 7200RPM Hard Drive w/ 39GB open
4X DVD+R/RW CD-RW Combo

I may need additional software to make a DVD but I need a saved movie before I worry about that.
Thanks for any help as I am ready to give up.

What happens when you try to save the movie?

You might find some help in the Problem Solving/
Saving Movies section at www.papajohn.org.

Bob,
When I originally tried to save the movie, it would appear to be processing for hours and hours, however, my CPU didn't show any activity and I would finally abort the process. After researching more about the other settings in the save to my computer section of PapaJohns website, I don't have a setting for DV-AVI (NTSC) but I do have a setting for DV-AVI (PAL). It is my understanding the the setting I see is used for non U.S. formatting. I became frustrated with the process and put it on hold as my son was playing allstars. I have now come back to the project in hopes of finding a solution as I have spent too much time to quit and I appear to be close to finishing the project.
Thanks for your help!

:
Hi Jim S,
NTSC is the broadcast standard for the US. UK/Ireland is PAL, the rest
of Europe is SECAM.

You toggle between PAL and NTSC formats in MM2 by using Tools > Options >
Advanced > Video Settings.

PapaJohn,
Thank you for the tip as I was able to change the format to NTSC. I then tried to save the movie with this format and the movie file was 96% complete when the computer stopped processing with an error message that stated movie was not completely saved as software had difficulty and shut down and needed to be restarted. The uncompleted movie file was approximately 14,000 MB and could not be opened so I deleted the file to clear up space. Does it matter if the anti virus software is enabled or disabled as it was disabled before I saved the movie but was enabled after the software shut down? Do I just keep trying until it works or should I do something different?

Thanks!
Jim S.

Jim,

If you got that close, I'd do a hard drive tune-up and try again.

Free up some more space if you can, empty your recycle bin, defrag your hard
drive, and turn off other stuff for the render.... including your internet
connection and virus protection. It might save.
